How is a braking system constructed?

What we often refer to colloquially as "the brake" is technically a complex mechanism, an entire braking system.

The structure of a brake system starts with the brake pedal - as the interface to the person operating the vehicle - and extends to the brake disk. Essentially, modern brake systems consist of the following components, which must all interlock perfectly to ensure fast, precise and reliable braking:

  1. Brake pedal: The braking system starts with the brake pedal, which the driver presses. It transfers the driver's physical force to the system to initiate the braking process.
  2. Brake booster: This boosts the force that the driver exerts on the brake pedal so that less pressure is required to activate the brakes. The brake booster usually works with the help of vacuum.
  3. Master brake cylinder: The master brake cylinder converts the mechanical force from the brake pedal into hydraulic pressure. This pressure is transmitted to the brake cylinders via the brake lines.
  4. Brake lines with brake fluid: The brake hoses transport the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder to the brakes on each wheel. The brake fluid transmits the pressure required for the braking process.
  5. Brake calliper: The brake callipers are mounted on the wheels and act as a mount for the brake pads. They are activated by the hydraulic pressure and press the brake pads against the brake discs.
  6. Brake pad: Brake pads consist of a friction material that makes contact with the brake disk and thus generates the friction that slows down the vehicle. They are wearing parts and must be replaced regularly.
  7. Brake disk (or brake drum for drum brakes): The brake disk is connected to the wheel hub and rotates with the wheel. The pressure of the brake pads on the disk creates friction, which slows down the vehicle.

Interesting facts about the ABS system

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) is part of the braking system. It is an electromechanical system that monitors the wheel speeds in modern vehicles to prevent the wheels from locking during braking. If a wheel threatens to lock, the ABS briefly reduces the brake pressure to ensure control of the vehicle.

Part of the big picture: Brake systems from MOV'IT

MOV'IT brake systems consist of brake calipers, brake pads, brake discs and brake hoses and thus form the rear part of a brake system. We attach great importance to creating the interfaces to the original vehicle components without any loss of quality, thus ensuring seamless integration into the entire braking system. MOV'IT brake systems are specially designed for high-performance vehicles and are characterized by a large number of technical innovations that have already proven their performance in practice many times over.

We attach great importance to the individualization and quality of the components. Our brake systems are specially adapted to the requirements of the respective vehicles. This applies to racing vehicles as well as heavy-duty brakes used in special protection or by the military .

The components at a glance

All components of a MOV'IT brake system - brake caliper, brake pot, brake pad and mounting - are specially designed and optimized for the respective area of application.

Due to the significantly greater wear reserves and therefore longer service life of the brake pads and brake discs, a MOV'IT brake system is almost cost-neutral compared to the original brake system - taking the mileage into account.

MOV'IT brake caliper

At the heart of all MOV'IT brake systems is the two-piece brake caliper made of high-strength 7075 aluminum alloy, which is also used in aircraft construction. Its long design allows the use of maximum disc sizes and results in significantly improved rigidity and an extended contact surface of the brake pad.

The piston staggering is vehicle-specific so that the brake pad is always pressed evenly against the disc, which maximizes braking force and minimizes wear.

Our brake callipers also include the MOV'IT CROWN system for securely fixing the brake line. In the Sport Performance models, we also install the MOV'IT RAPAD-X system, which enables the pads to be changed quickly without removing the calliper from the bracket.

Highlights:

✔️ High-strength aluminum alloy

✔️ Highest stability

✔️ Maximum braking force

✔️ Uniform pad wear and even heat transfer thanks to vehicle-specific progressive piston staggering

✔️ Optimized cooling thanks to open brake pad baffle

MOV'IT brake discs

Our performance sports brake discs are precisely cast, machined, coated and assembled in a multi-stage production process.

The MOV'IT DDE cooling system (Double Directional Evolvent System) inside the disc is a double directional ventilation system. Thanks to its special arrangement of air ducts in conjunction with a 120 % larger surface area, the heat generated by braking is dissipated into the air much faster than with conventional braking systems.

MOV'IT brake discs are specially designed for fast and heavy vehicles. The friction ring is significantly larger (68-70 mm compared to 55 mm for other manufacturers) in order to dissipate more kinetic energy.

Highlights:

✔️ Extreme fading resistance

✔️ Perforated for optimum response even on wet roads

✔️ Intelligent cooling system in the brake discs with reinforced wall thickness and the largest possible surface area

✔️ Highest possible heat absorption capacity and outstanding thermal conductivity

MOV'IT brake pads

Our brake pads play an important role in the transfer of frictional energy into thermal energy: thanks to their unique material composition, they guarantee fading resistance, durability and considerably less wear.

We install special absorber weights for noise suppression, which prevent vibrations and thus the typical brake squeal.

Highlights:

✔️ Enlarged friction surface compared to the original brake

✔️ Uniform heat transfer

✔️ Lower system temperature

✔️ Longer service life

MOV'IT brake hoses

For our brakes, we always use steel flex lines (= steel-coated Teflon hoses) instead of rubber hoses. Due to the lower elasticity of the material, the braking force is transmitted more precisely, resulting in better braking performance.

Highlights:

✔️ Loss-free transmission of the braking force

✔️ Improved response behavior of the brakes

✔️ Greater protection against damage

✔️ Longer service life at Druckbelastung✔️ More stable brake feel and reduced risk of failure

Innovative braking systems: Technical leadership made in Germany

Brakes are far more than just a functional component of a vehicle - they are at the heart of safety and control. In extreme situations, at high speeds or in challenging environments, the quality of the braking system determines driving stability and confidence in the vehicle.

In this context, MOV'IT is continuously developing new technologies to meet the growing demands of modern vehicles. Our in-house innovations stand for precision and reliability that make the difference on the road.

MOV'IT DDE DOUBLE DIRECTIONAL EVOLVENT SYSTEM

Our innovative, dual-directional ventilation system ensures unparalleled heat dissipation after every braking maneuver. The intelligently positioned cross-holes in the brake discs make a decisive contribution to rapidly reducing the temperature and thus ensuring outstanding deceleration performance with excellent fading resistance .

When selecting materials and processing methods, we also make sure to combine the lowest possible weight with full performance. The reduction in weight reduces the unsprung masses, which improves the responsiveness of the brakes. The rotating masses on the wheel are reduced, which changes the steering behavior and increases steering precision.

MOV'IT CROWN

Our patented CROWN system offers precise alignment and fixing of the steel flex brake lines. This effectively prevents displacements or deviations that could be caused by vibrations or tensile forces.

MOV'IT RAPAD-X

The "Rapid Pad Exchange" system enables the brake pads to be changed quickly and easily without removing the brake callipers. This makes MOV'IT brakes indispensable in racing situations and for ambitious amateur racers.
